DISTRICT CLERK INVITED TO SPEAK BEFORE LEADERSHIP ROWLETT GROUP ABOUT DIGITAL COURTS AND RECORDS IMAGING

On Thursday, February 18, District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons spoke to the 2010 Leadership Rowlett Class about the Digital Courts Project and the records scanning and storage system.

At the invitation of Commissioner Mike Cantrell, Mr. Fitzsimmons described the process of going paperless in the civil, family and criminal courts and how the process will save taxpayers many thousands of dollars in the future by establishing efficient courts and effective records management.

The group, which also toured the Frank Crowley Criminal Courts and Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center buildings, visited the George Allen mezzanine to see the enormous number of files stored there.

Records Manager Stanley Tungate showed astonished visitors one row of 20,000 divorce cases from one year alone and said that the District Clerk’s office saved almost $40,000 this year by not ordering criminal case jackets.

“I’m always glad to work with other elected officials to help educate citizens about what we’re doing for Dallas County,” said Mr. Fitzsimmons.
