Tanya Varnado Has Worked Her Way Up Quickly With Hard Work and a Love For Helping Others

In less than a year, Tanya Varnado, who was hired as a subpoena clerk in criminal support, has been promoted to the position of bond forfeiture and cashier specialist to the position she now holds – criminal support specialist.
Working in a public environment in which customers can enter and exit freely has been an adjustment for Tanya after she worked in a large national bank in which customers were literally buzzed into her work area for security reasons.
“One of my biggest challenges I faced when I first begin working here, was not being accustomed to every one being able to walk into our office for assistance no matter who they were,” says Tanya. “This was completely different from the bank where we had to buzz people in order for them to be assisted. I thought that it was strange since I am working in the criminal section. But as time passed, I discovered that openness made a more personable experience for the customer as well as a welcoming atmosphere for the office as a whole.”
“Another challenge was getting some colleagues to realize that the concept of teamwork affects everyone,” adds Tanya. “I feel rewarded when I can be of assistance to anyone that needs my help, whether it’s in person or over the phone. I feel most rewarded when someone comes in or calls me and says an individual gave them my name or that another person sent some one to me. It feels good to know that my co-workers have that much faith in me that I am able to resolve whatever the issue may be and if I can't solve it personally, that I can point them in the right direction.”
“My mother is the strongest influence in my life because she has taught me so much, the most important principle being that if I treat people with dignity and respect no matter who the are and that is how I will be regarded,” says Tanya.
“Born and raised in Dallas, I have learned that the most important values are those school cannot teach: patience and understanding for whatever the situation is or the job you perform. You have to love what you do in order to stick with it,” concludes Tanya.
Tanya says her two daughters, 11 and 3 years old, keep her focused on life and what joys it brings just through the innocence of children. She loves to travel especially with her fiancé who competes in all types of body building and bench press competitions, which her mother and daughters attend as well.
