THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE UNDERWAY TO BENEFIT GROWING NUMBER OF NEEDY
Posted by: Marsha Bills
With the highest unemployment rate in decades, Dallas-area residents of all ages and from all backgrounds are in great need of basics, including food. So this year’s District Clerk Thanksgiving food drive will benefit the Wilkinson Center, with a special bonus from the North Texas Food Bank.
Individuals may donate non-perishable food, such as canned or dried foods, or they may donate cash to the Wilkinson Center. For each dollar donated to the Center, the Food Bank will return $10 worth in food, enormously expanding the capability of the organization to help families, not just during the holidays, but in the months ahead.
Thousands of Dallas County residents are unemployed and have been unemployed with little hope of finding work. As a result, many middle-class working families are struggling to keep their homes, get medical attention and, most basic, feed their families.
“We may not be able to provide jobs, pay mortgages, rent or medical bills, but we can all spend a few dollars to help feed people in distress, especially children,” says Felicia Pitre, chair of the Benevolence Committee. “We urge each employee in the District Clerk’s office to give as much as possible to help our community at this time of unprecedented need.”
Deputies throughout the department can see their representative on the Benevolence Committee to determine the drop-off location for donations in each building or to arrange a cash donation.
