Growing professional interest and a need for up to date training in collections are clearly evident, based on the more than tripled number of professionals who attended the second annual Multi-Jurisdictional Collections Workshop hosted by the District Clerk’s Felony Collections Department held in the Frank Crowley Criminal Courts Building on October 16, 2009.
“I knew from positive feedback received last year that this event would be well attended,” said Debra Parker, District Clerk Felony Collections Manager, “but as soon as the invitations were emailed, the RSVPs began pouring in.”
This year’s workshop was expanded from a three-hour session to a full day of state-accredited collections training by event planners Melissa Williamson and Debra Parker who prepared a full agenda ranging in topics from application processing to the 2010 statewide warrant roundup. Presenters included Jim Lehman, OCA Collections Program Manager; Bruce Schneider, Beatriz Maynes, Julie Bragg and Andrea Escamilla from Denton County; Don McKinley from the City of Austin; Gail Soape, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4-1; and Melissa Williamson.
Professionals from Collin, Denton, Ellis, Wise, Parker, Rockwall, Comal, Tarrant, Cooke, Johnson, Nacogdoches, Hill, Grayson, Hunt and Brazos counties attended as well from the cities of Colleyville, Southlake, Addison, Forney, Austin, Lewisville, Lancaster, Fort Worth, Dallas, Burleson, Melissa, Allen, Carrollton, Garland, North Richland Hills, Oak Point, Fate, Glenn Heights, Red Oak, Arlington, Bedford, McKinney, Richardson, Coppell, Sanger, Garrett, Castle Hills and Sachse.
Dallas County attendees included the District Clerk’s Office Felony, Juvenile, Trust and Protective Order Collections departments; Community Supervision and Corrections; County Clerk Misdemeanor Collections; the Auditor’s Office; and Justice of the Peace Collections staff from Precincts 2-1, 3-3; 5-2, 3-2, 4-1, 1-2 and 1-1.
“I especially want to thank Felony Collections staff members Jenny Kirtley, Amy Nolan, Peggy Burt, Verlinda Flowers, Mariela Avalos, Glenn Pittman, and Traketa Edwards for assisting with hosting the event as well as attending the full day of training. Also, David Daniels, Anne Erwin, Felicia Pitre and Carla Barclay for their assistance in making this event successful,” concluded Ms. Parker.
