CHERYL-WHITMAN RIVERA BRINGS A
COMPASSIONATE PERSPECTIVE TO HER WORK

Although Cheryl Whitman-Rivera has just been in the District Clerk’s office for a little more than a year, she has quickly shown her value as a team member among her colleagues, serving customers and the courts with enthusiasm and efficiency.

After joining the District Clerk’s office in May 2008, Cheryl served in the Family Courts as a part-time floater. She so impressed her supervisors that she is now lead clerk in the 162nd Civil Court.

Despite the hectic pace at which court clerks work every day, Cheryl says she really enjoys her co-workers, and even though they are always working to do their jobs to the best of their ability, they also try to have fun and enjoy each other.

Trying to be compassionate and understanding is the key to dealing successfully with both customer and colleagues, remembering that most customers who come to court are in the midst of problems, says Cheryl.

She also believes that her work in the courts gives her a broader perspective on her own blessings – including a happy marriage and three children – and she makes a genuine effort with each contact to treat every one as she would want to be treated.

Born in Houston and raised in Dallas, Cheryl attends church regularly and tries to enjoy each day with husband and her sons David, 11, and Jonathan, 5, and daughter Judith, 1.

With her bright smile, excellent work ethic and a life balanced by family, Cheryl is poised to continue her success serving in the District Clerk’s Office.
